Take Your Position

My plan for the 2025–2026 school year was to pursue a full-time career in real estate while homeschooling my kids through their first years of middle and high school. For four years, I made every decision with that goal in mind. But here I am this September—back at school serving as a school secretary, while still building my real estate business.

What changed?Did I lose my desire to homeschool or become a full-time agent? Did I give up on my plan?

No, my plans didn’t change. But I’m learning there are seasons when we must hold our dreams up to the sovereign and perfectly wise love of a good God.

When Plans Don’t Go as Planned

On the Enneagram, I’m a 2 with a wing 3—The Achiever. I’m charismatic, social, driven, and I love to help others. Those traits serve me well as a realtor, but every strength has its shadow. My weakness? Overextending.

Rather than releasing control to God, I push harder. I strive. I stress. And the result is exhaustion and discontentment.

By June, as the school year ended, I had to face a hard truth:I had done everything in my power to prepare for full-time real estate work, but the market, interest rates, and life circumstances weren’t in my control. Instead of stepping into my dream role, I was stepping back into another year as a secretary.

That’s when God whispered: “Take your position.”Those three words have reshaped my perspective.

1. My Physical Position Is No Accident

Psalm 37:23–24:

“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.”

Right now, God has me at Vance Elementary, and it’s not a mistake. I could see this as failure because I’m not yet a full-time realtor, or I can see it as an appointment: “Why be disappointed in the very appointment God has given me?”

If He’s called me to Vance for another year, there’s purpose in it—people to love, light to shine, encouragement to give. This changes my posture from frustration to intentionality.

2. My Spiritual Position Holds Truth Beyond Feelings

When plans fall apart, it’s easy to feel like I’m not enough. But my spiritual position tells a different story:

  • I am His child (John 1:12).

  • I am a new creation; the old is gone (2 Corinthians 5:17).

  • I am not condemned (John 3:18).

  • I am God’s handiwork, equipped for His call (Ephesians 2:10).

Truth doesn’t change with my circumstances. My spiritual identity remains firm, even when my emotions waver.

3. My Spiritual Position Holds Power

Because of Jesus, I have direct access to God. But when hope feels delayed, discouragement creeps in:

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick” (Proverbs 13:12).

I’ve been tempted to believe my dreams are too big or that I’m not worthy of God’s blessings. That’s why prayer is so critical. Hebrews 4:16 reminds us to “approach God’s throne of grace with confidence.”

Prayer doesn’t just change circumstances; it aligns my heart with God’s will. As I delight in Him, He reshapes my desires and deposits His plans into my heart.

4. My Position vs. His Position

Psalm 103:19:

“The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all.”

There are days I act like I’m in control. But God’s perspective is eternal, perfect, and far above mine. Isaiah 55:8–9 says His ways are higher than ours. Accepting this truth frees me from carrying burdens that aren’t mine.

Choosing to Take My Position

I’m learning to embrace my position—both physical and spiritual. This season at Vance is intentional. My identity as His daughter is unshakable. My prayers are powerful. And His throne is established over everything.

May we all take our position, trusting God to use us where we are, for His purposes, in His perfect timing.

Reflection Question:

Where in your life do you need to “take your position”—trusting God’s placement and His plan, even when it doesn’t match your own?
